A real nip and tuck encounter that could have gone either way to start the season off with and if it wasn't for the fact that everyone to a man left nothing out there it may well have gone the other way. After a solid start we were disappointed to go 1-0 down but quickly got it to 1-1  as Casey spotted the goalie a few inches off his line and elected to shoot directly from the centre spot. We then went 2-1 ahead only to be pegged back to 2-2 by half time. They went 3-2 up shortly after after half time, then we got it back to 3-3 courtesy of the only shot Dave had all game that did not hit the corner flag. We thought we had scored the winner when we went 4-3 up only to concede again and just when we thought we would have to settle for a hard earned draw up popped Jono to secure the win with a superbly composed side foot finish into the corner of the net. Great start considering at least 4 men were being played out of position and our Manager was missing alleged to have been with his new bird instead (this is a developing story so will keep you updated as and when we know more). Also a special mention to Stevie G and how unlucky he was not to have bagged what would have undoubtedly been goal of the season with some Van Persie/Di Canio flick up and volley thing with his back to the goal that the goalie somehow got his fingers to and pushed wide.

Even though we went in at half time 3-0 down I always felt that we were in the game, and I think especially in the first half the main difference was that they took their chances and we didn't. We could have gone 1-0 nil up on 3 separate occasions, most notably when Stevie G  found himself clean through, rounded the goalie and forgot to pull the trigger. Not that going 1-0 up would have meant we would have won but we know that they turn into a bunch of twats we they are losing so it would have been interesting to see. Second half we dealt with them a lot better with a nice goal direct from a corner from Perrott and a composed finish from Stevie G to get a couple back but if we had been a little sharper and made better decisions when attacking we would have pegged them back a bit further. Shame.
